Honda Sales Speed Up in May to New Record; Civic Sets All-Time Record
CR-V and Fit set records

TORRANCE, Calif. June 1, 2007 --

Record May sales for American Honda Motor Co., Inc., increased to 145,367, up from 141,810 in 2006, breaking the previous May record set in 2004, the company announced today. The Honda Division posted record May sales of 129,447, up from May 2006 results of 125,639.

With one additional selling day in May 2007, the daily selling rate* (DSR) percentage change represents a 1.4 percent decline for American Honda and a 0.9 percent decline for Honda Division. Year-to-date American Honda sales increased to 625,994, up 1.0 percent.

Honda Division's new May record was bolstered by all-time record sales of the compact Civic and subcompact Fit and a new May record for the CR-V crossover SUV - the best-selling SUV in the U.S. Civic sales of 39,993, up 32.6 percent for the month, shattered an all-time record of 36,533 set in August 2001. Civic Hybrid sales of 4,520, up 50.4 percent, also broke the all-time record of 4,146 set in August 2005. Record May CR-V sales increased by 35.9 percent to 19,513. Fit results of 5,361 achieved a new all-time record.

"Small is big right now," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda. "Smaller vehicles have become more attractive for multiple reasons and we expect this trend to continue for the time being."

Additional large volume Honda Division products for May include the Accord, 31,915; Odyssey, 15,235; and Pilot, 10,133. Ridgeline and Element volume respectively totaled 3,600 and 3,187. Year-to-date, Honda Division sales of 551,220 are up 2.5 percent with total car sales increasing by 3.9 percent and light truck sales increasing by 0.7 percent on a DSR basis.

Acura Division sales totaled 15,920. The recent introductions of the completely redesigned MDX luxury SUV and all-new RDX crossover SUV pushed Acura light truck sales up 82.6 percent to 6,635. The MDX posted strong May sales of 4,623, up 27.2 percent versus last year and up 7.1 percent for the year on a DSR basis.

*The daily selling rate is calculated with 26 days for May 2007, versus 25 for 2006.

Cycling/Le Tour de Langkawi: High praise from UCI’s McQuaid

THE International Cycling Union (UCI), under pressure over the spate of controversies that have surrounded the Pro Tour in Europe, is leaving it up to the Malaysian Government to decide whether Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) would be part of its globalisation plans for the fledgling series.UCI president Pat McQuaid yesterday stated his satisfaction with the new organisation of LTdL under the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) this year, even stating that the level of the event shows that the country is ready to be part of the Pro Tour expansion.
But as the first three years of the Pro Tour calendar have seen a never-ending squabble between the governing body and organisers of major races in Europe, eventually leading to the three Grand Tours — the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a Espana — pulling out of the calendar this year, it leaves a big question mark as to the future of LTdL.Latest on the cards should the Pro Tour be moved out of Europe are Malaysia's LTdL and Australia's Tour Down Under, both of which are currently hors categorie races on UCI continental calendars and McQuaid had nothing but good words for the organisation of LTdL.
"The race had a couple of troubled years, but it is a very good race and an important race to the UCI. It is a wonderful gesture in which the Government recognised this fact that this race is beneficial to their objectives," said McQuaid. Pro Tour status would mean the organisers are required to include all 20 Pro Tour teams, with just wildcard entries available for teams outside that division. The LTdL's current status as part of the UCI Asia Tour means the organisers will be able to allocate more places to lower ranked teams.
Cycling/Le Tour de Langkawi: Second win for Loddo

ALBERTO Loddo again outwitted the sprinters' teams to win a bunch sprint and took his second stage win in the 12th edition of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) in Kota Baru yesterday.The fourth stage that began 178.2 kilometres away in Gua Musang served up action to match what was arguably the best crowd support this year's Tour has received thus far as throngs of people, mostly schoolchildren, lined the streets almost every other kilometre from start to finish.
A Panaria squad weakened by the premature abandonment of Ruben Bongiorno, led out Maximiliano Richeze after the peloton had gobbled up Tinkoff's Serguei Klimov — the final escapee in a seven-man breakaway that lasted almost 80 kilometres — just three kilometres from the finish.Loddo's Serramenti Diquigiovanni team had unusually teamed up to form a leadout train that effectively leveled him with the South Africans who led out Daryl Impey. Tinkoff, who had done some of the work to keep the seven-man break at bay within three minutes of the peloton, failed to do justice when their sprinter Nikolai Trusov only managed 10th placing, even behind Malaysian team Le Tua's Anuar Manan.
"I must thank my teammates for today's (yesterday) win. It wasn't any easier than the first one, but they did the work and let me go at the right moment," said 27-year old Loddo, who brought his tally to three stage wins in two races after winning the first stage of the Vuelta Tachira in Venezuela two weeks ago and the first stage of LTdL in Langkawi last Friday.A horrific pile-up in the final 25 metres of the stage as the bunch scrambled for the finish took out Francaise des Jeux's Lilian Jegou and Azad University's Amir Zargari.
Frenchman Jegou was rushed to the hospital and was found to have suffered a hairline fracture inhis wrist, while Zargari is out with a hip injury, bringing to 10 the number of casualties in the race thus far.
Nevertheless, the yellow jersey remained on the back of Credit Agricole's Anthony Charteau, whose team did most of the pacing work in the first three quarters of the stage that kept the attacks at bay. Charteau said the main objective of the team is now to keep the jersey until the eighth stage in Genting Highlands on Friday.Loddo's win meant he wrested the green jersey as the points classification leader from Richeze, while the blue Asian classification leader's jersey changed hands from Skil-Shimano's Yokihiro Doi to Giant Asia's Hossein Askari after the Iranian took a three-second time bonus by winning the first intermediate sprint at the 49.6km point in Felda Ciku.But Askari only leads the Asian classification by a mere one second.Another bunch sprint finish is expected when the peloton heads through a flat 167km fifth stage from Kota Baru to Kuala Terengganu today.

  • Pengubahsuaian kecil pada jeriji radiotor,bonet atau bentuk serta rekabentuk lampu.
  • Pengubahsuaian kecil dan melebarkan jarak tayar atau penahan lumpur.
  • Pengubahsuaian atau pemasangan tambahan bumper besar (samaada jenis keluli atau fibreglass) pada bahagian hadapan dan belakang.
  • Pemasangan rim dan tayar yang lebih besar.
  • Pemasangan para bumbung.
  • Pemasangan lampu brek tambahan (berwarna merah) atau lampu penunjuk arah (berwarna amber).
  • Pemasangan sun roof diatas bumbung.
  • Pemasangan sportlight atau lampu halogen (berwarna putih atau kuning) pada bahagian hadapan sahaja iaitu tambahan kepada lampu sedia ada.

Go for the 12th edition of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) on Feb 2-11-2007

The LTdL contingent of over 1,000 people will cover a total of 1,374 kilometres, traversing through eight States and two Federal Territories.

"There will also be local and international television crews. It will take up about 9,000 room nights in the hotels along the routes and catering for about 36,000 meals," said Naim.

"There will be 300 vehicles in the convoy and 100 motorcycles. It is quite a massive operation and needs precise coordination."

He added that cycling fans will be able to follow the race news through SNTV's representatives covering the race through 265 broadcasters which will reach at least 840,000,000 homes worldwide.

Channels in the Asian Continent and also Europe will air the highlights through arrangements being made with ESPN and other viewers will be able to follow the Tour through other television channels.

"Being one of the biggest cycling events in the world, which promises prize money and contract value close to US$300,000 (about RM1.1 million), Malaysia will definitely benefit from the event with the promotional and advertising value," said Naim.

The traditional curtain raiser to the Tour, the Blue Ride for enthusiasts, could also be renamed to suit the new sponsors and is likely to be held in Putrajaya this time around.

SUVs Can Be Environmentally Friendly!

In the past few years, the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) has gained amazing popularity. When before sleek sports cars and petite Japanese cars were the only “in” thing in the world of cars, now these big macho brutes have taken the world by storm. With their style and size, SUVs make a statement loud enough to be heard in all corners of the world. More than the outer appearance, SUVs are quite functional as well. The interiors are very comfortable and decked out with every imaginable gadget to make driving easier. SUVs can lug the whole family around. Indeed, SUVs are also serving as all-around vehicles.

So why are some sectors harping on SUVs? For one, the high demand for SUVs has precipitated the skyrocketing prices for each single unit. An SUV may be pleasing to behold but your bank account will definitely suffer for it. Another critical issue linked to the SUV is its environmental impact. A vehicle this size definitely consumes much more fuel than you average sedan. SUVs haven’t been nicknamed “gas guzzlers” for nothing. That, of course, adds to the expense of the owner as well. More than the monetary impact, fuel consumption also has adverse implications regarding the environment. SUVs are not particularly known for their fuel efficiency. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Studies have shown that SUVs emit more carbon dioxide per mile than the average car. With the rising environmental problems the whole world is facing, this is indeed a very serious issue. Another point that has been raised concering SUVs is their safety. Due to their height, SUVs have a larger tendency to roll over during an accident. This of course increases the chances of acquiring serious injuries, and even death.

So is there any reason left to purchase an SUV today aside from the image it portrays? Good news for SUV lovers – the answer is yes. Realizing the negative aspects of the earlier models, manufacturers are now modifying SUVs to address the issues outlined above. First, SUVs are now made lighter than the first models. Weight is directly related to fuel consumption. With the decrease in weight, overall fuel consumption is decreased as well. Furthermore, there are now hybrid SUVs which rely on electricity in tandem with gasoline or diesel. These new measures definitely aid a lot towards the lessening of the pollution generated by these big cars. Now, people can enjoy the benefits of SUVs without offending their moral sensibilities when it comes to the environment. More so, safety features abound in SUVs – and definitely in the newer ones. The critical factor now is the driver. How he handles the car on the roads is the most important thing that ensures his (and the passengers’) safety.

As such, SUVs are still among the most popular vehicles today. With the prestige lent to this line of cars by celebrities (who just seem to love SUVs), it is safe to say that SUVs will be here for a long time yet.
